diy terrarium place markers

It would be a serious understatement to say that I’m over the moon excited about today’s post. Not only is it a lovely little creative spin on a traditional place card concept, it also happens to be the first exclusive look into the amazing content gracing the pages of the new 2016 Weddingstar magazine. And when I say this is but a tiny glimpse at a mass of unique wedding ideas, all pulled together to help brides everywhere celebrate beautifully, I’m hardly doing the magazine justice. But no need to take my word for it. Take a peek at the cover reveal concluding today’s post and follow the link to get your hands on everything pretty. And in the meantime, here’s how to make these little lovelies.

The Supplies

The Step by Step

diy terrarium place markers - step 1 and 2

Step 1: pull a small mound of faux moss off the ribbon backer. Using a small paint brush, apply mod podge (or any white all purpose glue) to the base of the bell jar and apply the moss. Leave to let dry.

Step 2: once the moss has set, using your twigs create a tunnel in the center of the mound. Apply a small dab of hot glue to the bottom and quickly insert your twigs. Hold until the glue has set and the twigs are securely in place.

Step 3: once your place card has been written out, using the end of your paintbrush, curl the ends of the card. For an authentic scroll effect, angle your brush and do so in opposite direction on either end.

Step 4: hot glue your scroll card to the twigs.

Put Your Name On It: Personalization 101

Bridesmaid-Lifestyle-Shoot--067

Personalization is a key element to creating a look for your wedding that is entirely unique to you. Whether it is the addition of your names, monogram or wedding date, every element adds an extra special touch to your décor. Here’s a sneak peek into the ways in which we create beautiful, personalized products that help make your wedding the best day ever!

Glass Printing

Using a technique called Pad Printing (otherwise known as tampography), our in house production team take a printed 2-D image and apply it to glassware with a sponge-like pad. The image is printed onto this pad, then the glass is pressed down into it allowing the pad to wrap around the glass and impose the printed design onto it. We use this technique for glassware favors such as mason jars, wine glasses, shot glasses and more!

Canda-Bar-14 Modern-Fairytale--132

Digital Printing

Otherwise known as flat printing, we have an in-house print department that produces all of our stationery, stickers, clings, printed envelopes and even printed goodie bags using a high tech digital printer. Our personalization suite allows you to provide all the information your guests will need on your invitations, and with so many stationery collections to choose from you can be sure to find one that matches your style.

UV Printing

Using a state-of-the-art ultraviolet printer, this is how we produce all of our printed aisle runners and photo backdrops. Ultraviolet (UV) printing simply means we use UV inks that dry with the help of UV light, instead of traditional inks that dry by allowing chemicals to evaporate over time.

Modern-Fairytale--027 Modern-Fairytale--030

Heat Pressing

With the help of an industrial heat press, we apply a printed 2-D printed designs to acrylic cake toppers, handkerchiefs and tote bags. We also personalize our burlap aisle runners and table runners this way but because the fibers can interfere with the heat press, we personalize each of those by hand using irons. This way we can ensure your product’s personalization lasts and always looks fabulous!

Foil Stamping

When you order a set of napkins from Weddingstar, you will receive them foil-stamped with your design of choice. You can take your customization one step further by selecting one of our 26 popular color choices! Personalized napkins are a popular trend for weddings and other events such as holidays, birthdays, baby showers, bridal showers and even anniversaries. The addition of foil to our napkins adds another level of luxe. This method can also be applied to our paper goodie bags, ribbon our are brand new faux leather compact mirrors.

Laser Cut Detailing

Most commonly used with our acrylic or wood veneer signs and cake toppers, this technique allows us to create unique designs in a variety of styles. Our in house design team creates custom designs that are then programmed into to our laser cutting machine. When we receive your order and specialized design, this machine will cut the design out of a solid sheet of acrylic or wood veneer, creating a one-of-a-kind piece just for you on your wedding day!

Laser Engraving

Laser engraving is a similar process to laser cutting, except that the power of the beam is less such that it does not cut right through the material. The result of this is a permanent personalized etch into either our wood, metal, leather, acrylic or glass products. Our laser engraved products not only add to your wedding décor, but they make wonderful keepsakes in your home for years to come.

Embroidery

Embroidery adds another level of prestige to products such as chair banners, hankies and our soon-to-arrive tote bags and silky robes. Industrial embroidery machines allow us to produce multiple orders at one time, as this is a very popular option with our brides. Get an embroidered item for yourself or share the love! Embroidered items make wonderful gifts for your bridesmaids and really show how much you care.

DIY Wedding Wednesday: The Beach Style Tablescape

beach style tablescape

Destination weddings, especially of the beach variety, are a gorgeous thing. The colors, the natural props mother nature has to offer, the open air. There’s a long list of reasons why planning a getaway for your nuptials is a great idea. That said, not everyone can manage pulling off the very specific logistical requirements a destination event comes with. So when you can’t get to the beach we say, bring the beach to you! Start by picking your favorite seaside color combo, tap into design details that represent what you love most about the waterfront, and blend it all together into tablescapes worthy of any ocean blue backdrop. Need some inspiration to get you going? Here’s just a few ways of pulling off the look.

DIY Wedding Wednesday: How-To Capture the Candids

wedding how to - capturing the candids

There’s absolutely nothing that compares to wedding photos taken by a professional photographer. Someone experienced in telling a couple’s love story through creative images taken on one of the most important days of their lives. But chances are your photographer will spend no more than 10 hours with you (12 if you’re lucky), leaving you with some missed moments certainly worth capturing. Not to worry though, we’ve got just the solution for filling in the gap, all while getting your guests involved in some fun. It’s as simple as putting a disposable, and budget friendly, single use camera into the hands of your guests.  Allow them to play photog for a moment, to see what great candid moments they can capture. Here’s the simple breakdown of everything you need to pull off the concept.

The Set-Up

Fancy requirements need not apply. Simply set up a small station, whether it be part of another set up like your welcome table or its own stand, and include however many cameras you’d like, as well as a sign explaining the candid moment mission to your guests. Go with a camera design that fits your wedding theme (see all the styles Weddingstar has to offer here), or a neutral and super cute option like the vintage design option shown here.

After the Big Day – Safekeeping

Once you’ve had a chance to develop all the great memories your guests captured, consider storing them in a lovely keepsake box, ready for exploring whenever the mood strikes.

DIY Wedding Wednesday: Place Setting 101

place setting how-to

Whether you’re planning your wedding on your own or working with a professional wedding stylist, there are certain wedding design principles that you’re going to want to get familiar with to help ease the planning process. And one of the most important no doubt involves the setup of your guest tables, beyond the centerpiece, focusing on the details that make the difference between an average and a stunning wedding day look. To help you guide your way through the structure of your personal tabletop formations, for today\s how-to we’re sharing our top place setting tips, all easily executable and applicable to any wedding day theme. Happy Planning!

The Place Setting How-To

Tip #1 – Placement is Everything

The first thing to remember when designing your place setting is that no matter what you’re planning to include, all pieces should serve a purpose, logistical or decorative (or ideally both!), and all should work together to create a balanced big picture.

place setting 101

Tip #2 – Layer on the Lovely. Plate Top Details.

Add instant eye candy to your set up by incorporating layers of useful details onto your guest plates. Consider a menu card to get their taste buds going and include their takeaway at their marked spot for a more personalized approach to a guest favor display. And of course there’s the must-include floral detail to finish off the look.

Tip #3 – Mark Their Spot

It may take a lot of work to plan out your wedding day seating plan, but it’s all worth it. Assigned seating not only leads to a more pleasant overall event experience for your guests, taking the guess work out of their hands, it also gives you another opportunity to personalize your affair. Go for a unique choice for your place card holder to up the interest factor.

Tip #4 – The Unexpected

A napkin is a straightforward place setting must, but how you go about displaying it comes with plenty of creative possibilities. Go the extra step and think through a way of incorporating yours in such a way that provides for another excuse to add detail to the overall look. A napkin ring, both traditional and DIY’d like we used here, is a natural choice.

Tip #5 – Go for the Upgrade

Your venue will likely provide you with all the place setting staples required for dinner service. But if budget allows it, consider upgrading the options for a look more suited to your specific event design. At the very least make sure you review the standard offering to ensure all your service needs are indeed covered.

Star Players – The Stationery

What’s the easiest way to incorporate personalized details into your place setting and event as a whole? A custom stationery line with pieces that subtly shape and elevate the specifics of your wedding day design. Here’s a recap of the pieces featured in today’s post.

DIY Wedding Wednesday: Pretty Paper Garland How-To

mini paper garland how-to

OK. So I think I can now officially say that I’ve got somewhat of a little obsession with paper. But not just any kind of paper. The kind that can be used to create little decorative details that instantly up the pretty factor on whatever they’re applied to. Couple that concept with scale, of the miniature kind, and I’m a happy girl! So when I was presented with the request to figure out a few ways to feature one of Weddingstar’s newest decorative trims, the mini white paper garland, I sprang to the challenge with glitter and spray paint in hand! Here are three of my favorite ways to put this petite paper trim to work.

The Supplies
