Whether you’re planning to tie the knot on New Year’s Eve or are simply using the festivities to inspire your wedding day design, there’s one decorative element that’s an absolute have-to-have. That element? Gold Glitter. A DIY bride’s best friend, easy to find, use and super inexpensive, gold glitter gives anything it’s applied to an instant boost of brilliance. From a sparkly accent on the smallest of day of details to big impact glitz, you’re guaranteed wow factor every time. Given all of today’s year end celebrations, for this DIY Wedding Wednesday installment we’re showcasing the golden good stuff on some playful blown glass heart decorations, as a stunning signature drink table overhang. Here’s the breakdown on how to make the look yours.
- white blown glass hanging heart decorations (in all 3 available sizes. Total number of hearts depends on the final size of overhang you’re looking for. We used 9 for ours.)
- mod podge glue + paint brush for applying glue to hearts
- gold glitter
- fishing line for hanging
The Step by Step
Step 1: remove the white ribbon that the hearts come with. You can reattach once the hearts are dry if you wish. Using the paint brush apply your glue to the portion of the heart you want covered with glitter, starting on one side. For the entire grouping of hearts you’ll want to vary the amount of glitter on each, with some hearts covered a quarter of the way up, some 3 quarters, some completely.
Step 2: sprinkle on glitter as soon as the glue has been applied.
Step 3: for the hearts that aren’t completely covered with glitter, gently brush the top line with your finger to create an imperfect, uneven finish, avoiding a perfectly straight line.
Step 4: let dry and repeat steps 1 – 3 on the other side of the heart.
Repeat Steps 1-4 on all your hearts.
Tip: For hanging we recommend using fishing line. If handling on your own, ensure the mechanism you are attaching the hearts to is secure and create the overhang the day before your wedding, if possible, as the process is time consuming.
