DIY: Add an Ombre Effect to Muslin Favor Bags

1hero_dyebag

Fabric drawstring bags make packaging favors a breeze. Today we’re going to show you how to dress up these muslin favor bags by adding a pop of color to match your wedding, shower or party.  The ombre effect on these bags was achieved by using gel food coloring as a fabric dye.

The Supplies

The Step by Step

Step 1. Dilute the gel food coloring with water to create a fabric dye.

Step 2. Using bag (b) as a guide, paint the bottom half of the bag and allow to dry completely.

Step 3. To create the light to dark ombre effect, you will need to add several layers of fabric dye. See bag (c). Allow the bag to dry completely before adding more dye. The color will become darker as you add more layers of dye.

Tip: Use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process.

These DIY ombre painted muslin favor bags were created for a baby shower. The pink area of the bags were revealed as guests removed the favors from the display box as a surprise party element.
