Tips from the Pros: 5 Tips for A Fabulous Wedding

The following is a guest post from Maria, owner of Le Papillion Events. As a wedding and event design specialist, Maria has been a part of her fair share of weddings. Today she gives her 5 most valuable tips on how to make sure you’re day goes off without a hitch and looks fabulous!

Having designed and witnessed more weddings than I count I know that every wedding is a celebration of a couple’s love, but I also know just how stressful it can be to get your wedding together! So here are my Top 5 pieces of wedding advice to help your day not only look beautiful, but go just how you always dreamed it would.

Most couples are on some kind of a budget to throw their wedding. No matter what your budget is, we all have this dream idea of a fantastically decadent wedding. But, when you’ve got to tighten your purse-strings, simply do less but do it in a grand style. If you don’t have a big budget for flowers at your wedding focus on your bouquet, the head table flowers and the receiving table. Color blocking is going to be key as well! Don’t try to do too much, keep to one color scheme and flower choice and centralize your flowers to make a statement in the places your going to be most of the night.

No really, hire one! I know with all the information all over the web (mine included!) that it seems like you can get all the details to plan your wedding yourself without the added cost of the planner, but their expertise is invaluable. They rehearse things with you that you might not even think about (like the height your bouquet should be held at as you walk down the aisle!) and can be a huge help to keep your sanity while planning your wedding. So find one you really connect with and hire them, you’ll be glad you did!

Just as you want to find a wedding planner that you mesh with, your photographer is another hire that you’ll want to feel a connection with. I’ve seen so many weddings and while each one always has beautiful photos of the couple taken,  I think some of the most important shots are often forgotten. Get your photographer to understand your vision of what you want for your wedding album. If you’re not sure what you want, then I would suggest getting a total view of your wedding, captured in stills. Get your photographer to grab snapshots of the sky, the trees and how their foliage looked on that particular day, outside of your ceremony location and how their gardens were landscaped or what the entrance looked like as people walked in, the outside of your house and the comings/goings while you were getting dressed, your fiance’s residence and the chaos in his house, how your reception venue looked before your guests arrived and so on. While it might seem ridiculous, the shots of everything on your wedding day, even while they might not be framed on your mantle, will give you the same pleasure when you look back through them years later.

Personalize your wedding! Don’t think of it as a theme, but after all your wedding day is all about you and your partner.  Add a few (2-3) personal touches that will take your day from ordinary to extraordinary. Everyone will remember the “little things” that made your day special and totally personal to you as a couple. Plus, with so many choices you can find items to personalize that are sure to fit the actual theme and color palette of your wedding.

Your photographer is going to be taking pictures of you all day but I really believe that you should get your photographs done as a couple before the ceremony. I know, then your groom has to see you before your wedding, but when you get your couple photos done before the ceremony it frees up both the photographer and yourselves to actually experience the rest of your wedding. That way you get to enjoy your cocktail hour, your guests and your reception! And really, once you’ve tied the knot, isn’t it time to celebrate and enjoy your friends and families company rather than stress over getting the perfect wedding photos?
