The Supplies

The Step by Step

diy wedding wands - step 1

Step 1: cut ribbons to a length of approximately 40-41″. Layer the personalized blue ribbon over the wide white ribbon and tie to your wooden stick, about 2″ from the top. Once looped and before securing, make sure to position your ribbons on both sides of the strand such that the wording faces up.

Step 2: cut gold twine to the same length as the ribbons and loop it through the front of a hole punched tag. Note: looping through the front of the tag versus the back will impact how your card sits. Lay the card behind the ribbons and secure the twine around the ribbons with a double knot. Once the tag and twine are secure, knot the ribbons around the twine, again making sure to position your ribbons on both sides of the strand such that the wording faces up.

Step 3: loop the mini bell through the already attached gold twine and secure to the ribbons with a double knot.

Ceremony Trends: Beyond The Traditional Wedding Ring Pillow

Put a ring in it…Or on it, but if you’re reading this then he’s probably already taken care of that! Today we’re sharing an excerpt from the 2015 edition of the Weddingstar magazine that’s all about our favorite new (and completely unique) ways to present your rings at the ceremony. So, if the traditional pillow isn’t quite your style, here are some unique ways to show off your shiny new bling.

The Dish

Not just for soap anymore, unique dishes have become a popular trend at weddings as a way of presenting the rings. We’ve fallen in love with the idea and the fact that these ring dishes will also look gorgeous on your dressing table at home. Not only are these ring dishes pretty, but their heirloom qualities may inspire a new family tradition. Pass along to your future Mr. or Mrs. for use on their wedding day.

Delicately Detailed

This exclusively designed Porcelain Leaf Ring Plate has a unique leaf shape making it a perfect choice for nature lovers. Made from high quality porcelain it has a delicately embossed pattern and if you look closely you will notice a pair of sweet lovebirds. Designed with openings for ribbon or twine, this pretty plate allows your rings to be safely secured inside.

Not just a ring dish

Not necessarily just for your rings, this vintage inspired Feather Wing Dish can serve another purpose as well. Cast from iron with a distressed white finish it has a unique small shape that fits snugly into the palm of your hand, making it the perfect size to present your wedding rings at the ceremony. It’s dual purpose? This little beauty sits so pretty at place settings you may also want to gift it as a favor your guests are sure to find completely irresistible.

The Box

The ring box is not just any box. It is the box that every bride (and bride-to-be) is restlessly waiting to see before her. It’s an expression of both your personal and wedding style. The way in which you display your rings as they are carried down the aisle is becoming yet another lovely way to personalize your day. And these not-so-ordinary boxes bring on the lovely tenfold. So if you’re trying to think outside the box when it comes to choosing your ring holder, these stunners may just reel you right back in.

On display

This is one box that you can truly make your own thanks to its versatile design. From custom etched monograms to all the personal touches you can place inside (some of our favorite fillers are petals, feathers and moss to name a few), this Acrylic Ring Box will never be replicated. And with a see-through riser to hold your rings, they will appear as if they are floating in your very own display case.

Just the right size

Because of its unique shape, this handcrafted Wooden Ring Box is not your traditional box. It’s a presentation all its own. This adorable keepsake is the perfect size to tuck safely inside any jacket pocket. Made from hand polished dark wood, personalize both the outside and inside with your names, wedding date or your own special message.

The Frame

Commonly used to accent pieces of art or photography, the frame has now been re-designed to hold something else you love and cherish—your wedding rings. The clever combination of a pillow and frame makes this an exceptional way to show off your new rings. This Framed Ring Cushion will look stunning at any vintage or shabby chic affair, not to mention on display in your home long after the wedding. And for a pretty piece of personalization you can call your own, the idea of wrapping the removable pillow in a piece of fabric from your mother’s wedding gown (as shown here) simply makes our hearts sing.

Stick With Tradition

Is the classic pillow still your pick? See and shop our more traditional ring pillow designs right over here. But first, take a look at this adorable miniature version that we couldn’t resist sharing!

The Mini

Perfect for tiny hands, this petite pillow is the sweetest accompaniment for your ring bearer’s walk down the aisle. The Supplies

The Step by Step

pearls and lace aisle marker - 1

Step 1: loop your strand three times, spacing out each loop.

Step 2: secure your loops at the top with floral wire. Use a piece of wire long enough to then secure the strand to your chair.

pearls and lace aisle marker - 2

Step 3: attach the pearl strand to your chair by wrapping your floral wire around your chair’s frame. Leave the wrap loose enough to insert your water picked roses behind it.

Step 4: tie a strand of ribbon around your wire to cover it. Keep the length about the same as the length of your longest loop. Like you did with the wire, keep the ribbon loose, leaving room for the roses.

Step 5: add another strand of ribbon, to add to the overall layered effect of the finished marker.

Step 6: insert water picked roses behind the wiring used to secure the pearl garland. Insert enough flowers to create a bountiful little cluster, while being careful not to make the arrangement too bulky. We used 2 water picks, each with 2 – 3 stems of spray roses.

{Tip: spray roses are ideal for this project because of their multiple blooms per single stem}

Step 7: secure your medium sized lace flower to your ribbon using its included wired backer. Position your flower such that it covers the water picks.

Step 8: add your small lace flower by attaching it to a pearl strand, to the bottom right of your medium lace flower.

Wedding Planning Essentials: Outdoor Ceremony How-To

outdoor ceremony setup

No one loves an outdoor wedding ceremony more than I do. Natural light, a warm summer breeze, sweet smells of distant wildflowers, all come together to create something simply magical. If you’re an outdoor ceremony lover like me and are planning one for your own wedding, here’s the rundown of what you need to consider to pull it off to perfection. Happy Planning!

How-To Tip #1: Frame Your Area

It’s not called the great outdoors for nothing! An outdoor ceremony space is generally a big one. Create an intimate setting by creatively framing off your area with some ceremony staples. Consider an aisle runner for a pretty direct pathway to the top of your site. Greet the eye when it gets there with a unique Unity Ceremony setup, complete with an unexpected decorative touch like a lantern overhang.

How-To Tip #2: Less is More

Take advantage of all the natural beauty that surrounds an outdoor space and go with subtle complimentary decorative accents to finish off the look. Using simple design tactics like specialty ceremony seating, think Cocoa Chiavari Chairs, and gorgeously simple aisle markers, think birch and cotton bud diy arrangements, provides for a ton of impact without overpowering what’s already there.

How-To Tip #3: All About the Details

You went for something out of the ordinary for your ceremony location, now keep the feeling of exceptional going with unique day of accessories that compliment your wedding day design. From a custom Welcome display to a lovely ring pillow alternative, the attention to detail will not go unnoticed.

How-To Tip #4: First Comes Comfort

Having an outdoor ceremony means taking on the powerful sun. Do it successfully by keeping your guests comfortable. Beyond the most obvious necessities, like hydrating beverages and sunscreen, consider providing your guests with something both practical and pretty, like shade providing paper parasols. As an added bonus, think of all the great picture opps you’ll get out of them!

How-To Tip #5: Plan B

You simply cannot plan an outdoor ceremony without an indoor back up. Full stop. Before committing to your outdoor venue, ensure that there is an indoor option available. If you’re having your outdoor ceremony on the same property as your indoor reception, try to avoid using the area where you’ll be hosting your dinner as your Plan B. It makes for difficult logistics and impacts the experience your guests have moving from one great space to another during the ceremony to reception transition. Be open to creative Plan B alternatives, even something at another nearby location. And plan for an atmosphere just as lovely as that of your original space to ensure you and your guests don’t miss out on any part of the experience you planned for.
