honeymoon getaway bags

February to the seasonal calendar is like Wednesday to the work week, something you just got to get through to get to something better. And we’re seriously feeling the need for some warm weather fun right about now. To help us cope with our lack of Vitamin D, we’re planning to surround ourselves with anything and everything vacation related, starting with today’s honeymoon getaway bag how-to. It’s a little bit of “if you build it, it’ll happen.” psychology we’re going for. So without further delay, here’s our three key rules to the perfect vacay swag.

Rule #1. All About The Bag

You want something compact, light weight and of course, super cute. And a touch of gold personalization never hurt anyone.

Rule #2. Keep It Simple Sweetheart

Don’t over pack. Keep it simple with just the essential fun in the sun accessories.

Rule #3. …And for The Mr.

Remind your guy to bring along his own little travel tote, so that you don’t find yourself lugging his stuff around.

DIY Wedding Wednesday: Terrarium Place Markers

diy terrarium place markers

It would be a serious understatement to say that I’m over the moon excited about today’s post. Not only is it a lovely little creative spin on a traditional place card concept, it also happens to be the first exclusive look into the amazing content gracing the pages of the new 2016 Weddingstar magazine. And when I say this is but a tiny glimpse at a mass of unique wedding ideas, all pulled together to help brides everywhere celebrate beautifully, I’m hardly doing the magazine justice. But no need to take my word for it. Take a peek at the cover reveal concluding today’s post and follow the link to get your hands on everything pretty. And in the meantime, here’s how to make these little lovelies.

The Supplies

The Step by Step

diy terrarium place markers - step 1 and 2

Step 1: pull a small mound of faux moss off the ribbon backer. Using a small paint brush, apply mod podge (or any white all purpose glue) to the base of the bell jar and apply the moss. Leave to let dry.

Step 2: once the moss has set, using your twigs create a tunnel in the center of the mound. Apply a small dab of hot glue to the bottom and quickly insert your twigs. Hold until the glue has set and the twigs are securely in place.

Step 3: once your place card has been written out, using the end of your paintbrush, curl the ends of the card. For an authentic scroll effect, angle your brush and do so in opposite direction on either end.

Step 4: hot glue your scroll card to the twigs.

DIY Wedding Wednesday: How-To Update Tradition – The Contemporary Guest Book

the contemporary guest book

There’s something so wonderful about the blending of tried and true traditions with current day trends, about putting contemporary twists on old school concepts. If you’re like me, a closet sucker for sentiment with a keen eye for pretty, then you’re in for a real treat. Using modern materials and on-trend designs, today’s feature products take the traditional concept of a guest book and elevate it x 100. From gorgeous hardcover bindings to delicately personalized pages, the transformation from old to new is major. As an added bonus, they also happen to make for amazing keepsakes and ideal spots to hold some of your favorite wedding day mementos. And with finishing details this pretty, you’re sure to want to put these books on permanent display.

All In The Details

About the only thing these books have in common with their traditional counterparts is their paper makeup. Beyond that, not a detail was left unchanged. Textured hardcovers hold personalized pages. Lined pages are replaced with blanks to open up the opportunity for how these books are used. And front to back, the design details are right on point.

Beyond the Wedding Day

Your guests have left their mark, now it’s your turn to expand on yours. Further the keepsake value of your guest book by turning any unused pages into scrapbook territory. From a copy of your wedding invitation to candid photos taken by your closest and dearest, this is the perfect place to house those mementos that mean the most.

DIY Wedding Wednesday: The Water Pearl Centerpiece

the water pearl centerpiece

What’s better than a lovely, expertly crafted, wedding centerpiece? A lovely wedding centerpiece that looks expertly crafted but is actually much more budget friendly. And that’s exactly what we’ve got for you today. Using super cost effective and creative water pearls, and just a few pretty tulips, we’re transforming a trio of simple cylinder vases into an arrangement perfectly suited for any sophisticated affair. And when all’s said and done, the last thing that’ll come to anyone’s mind when admiring the end result are the words budget friendly. Here’s how to get the look.

The Supplies

water pearl centerpiece supplies

  • a round bowl, a teaspoon and water
  • pack of water pearls in your color of choice (7 color options can be seen here)
  • a trio of cylinder vases, in a variety of heights
  • bundle of tulips (approximately 15-20 stems)

The Step by Step

step 1 for creating a diy water pearl centerpiece

Step 1: hydrate your water pearls. Using a ratio of 1.5 cups of water per teaspoon of dehydrated pearls, hydrate the entire pack of pearls. Pearls take at least 2 hours to expand. For best results, let them rest overnight.

step 2 for creating a diy water pearl centerpiece

Step 2: once pearls are fully hydrated, add them to your vases, filling each approximately a quarter of the way up.

step 3 for creating a diy water pearl centerpiece

Step 3: using a sharp blade knife, gently clean tulips off of all their leaves and begin filling your vases, trimming the lengths of the stems accordingly as you go. For each vase, start with a single stem, trimmed down such that it rest just above your water pearls. Next add stem on top of stem, carefully twisting each around your vase for an intertwined effect. Keep tulips close together but do not overlap them, and ensure that all stems are submerged in the water pearls to maintain their freshness.
